After two years of intensive, strategic research, a unique service aimed at revolutionising superyacht ownership and charter will be launched in the latter part of 2013. Developed by superyacht captain and veteran yacht management professional Werner Trotz, the MarNavProgram tailors superyacht ownership to the current global economic climate and new ownership trends. The objective of MarNav is to make yachting more appealing for existing owners and to attract new owners by offering shared ownership of a fleet of five superyachts.
“It is an ideal concept for first-time owners who wish to enter the superyacht world without huge expenses. With a very conservative and controlled entry budget, they can enjoy this exceptionally thrilling superyacht fleet experience with multiple locations worldwide. This is just one of many advantages over single yacht ownership,” explains managing director Werner Trotz.
MarNav superyacht owners share ownership of five superyachts, ranging from 35 to 60 metres, one of which is an explorer. The fleet is strategically located in the best cruising areas around the world. For the cost of just one yacht, MarNav owners have an entire fleet of yachts at their disposal. The fleet is fully commercially surveyed, insured and flag compliant.
Operating costs are equally shared among the owners and are further reduced through volume purchasing and specially negotiated fleet rates. More importantly, the MarNavProgram fleet owners can wipe out exorbitant ocean crossing expenses forever. They simply pick a continent to cruise, board a plane and lift anchor in a matter of hours, instead of waiting weeks for their yacht to complete an ocean crossing at high expense.
Another major advantage is the Malta Tax Code, under which the superyachts operate on the high seas. All VAT paid in Malta is reimbursed quarterly by the Maltese VAT Department. A VAT exemption certificate accepted in other EU countries has been issued.
“Selling a superyacht is hard work and can take years to complete. MarNav owners wishing to sell their ownership will find exiting the program quick and painless. They can offer their ownership to the remaining owners, who have the right of first refusal. Should they all pass on the option, MarNav will buy the ownership share and reserve it for equal distribution among the owners or for a potential new entry,” further commented Werner Trotz.
Working under contract, MarNav (Malta) Ltd. provides complete and transparent superyacht fleet management services for the owners. The directors and members of the MarNav team come from the superyacht industry, bringing with them more than 80 years of combined professional practice. Thanks to their many nautical miles of valuable experience a turnkey and hassle free maritime-compliant operation is guaranteed.

An Agreement was signed between Aage Hempel Netherlands, Tijssen Elektro and e3 Systems at the end of May to form The Consortium.
The Consortium is a collection of 3 expert technical companies, each with their own pedigree and skill sets, all of which are backed by a wealth of experience.
These companies have joined together to offer a new build service for super yachts that uniquely lasts for the full life cycle of the yacht.
It starts at the yacht’s Concept, progresses through Construction and continues until the yacht finally stops Cruising.
The Consortium has an extensive geographic spread. Some companies have offices where yachts are built and others where yachts cruise. Thus the
Consortium can provide their services at a lower cost due to their local presence through every stage of the yacht’s life.
The three professional companies of the Consortium can move fast, be flexible and provide turn-key solutions. The Consortium is happy to provide a single simple solution or a sophisticated complex package for yachts of any size. (Press release, 4 June 2013)

The turnout was boosted by the addition of the 1st Superyacht Brokerage & Charter Show
Around 37,000 people flocked to Moll Vell last week for the 30th Palma International Boat Show. The strong turnout was largely attributed to the 1st Superyacht Brokerage & Charter Show, which ran concurrently with the event from May 1-5.
“This was a completely different show from 2011,” says Chema Sans, director of the Palma show. “Most notably, it has grown a lot, the number of exhibitors was up 25 per cent and the sea-based exhibition area up 76 per cent, largely due to the crucial addition of a Superyacht Brokerage & Charter Show – a venture that makes a good deal of sense for the Balearics. e3 Systems hosted a seminar just before the beginning of the Antibes Yacht Show last week at the Automobile Club de Monaco. The keynote presentation was given by Dr. Waguih Ishak from Corning Glass who wowed the audience with Corning’s vision of how our lives will shortly be transformed and governed by interactive glass. Dr Ishak also gave a fascinating insight into how research and development is conducted in Silicon Valley, home to Corning and many other high tech companies. The region acts as an incubator for much of the technology we now live with and also for that of the future.
Delegates included yacht designers, representatives from shipyards, yacht fleet managers, technical managers, captains and ETOS. Other complementary presentations were given by speakers from Global IP, Van Berge Henegouwen, Monaco Telecom and e3 Systems. The emphasis was firmly on “Future Technology for Yachts” and there was much discussion on the needs of today’s “connected” society and how this impacts upon life aboard a yacht – both for owners and crew. There was also a lot of debate about the fast changing nature of communications and entertainment systems on-board. (e3 Systems Press release, 25 April 2013)
This new initiative will take place in the heart of Palma’s historical city and will run concurrently with the 30th Palma Boat Show. The show, situated on the Paseo Marítimo, is accessed either from the Palma Boat Show or from the Brokerage & Charter entrances, all within walking distance from some of the most exclusive shops and restaurants on the island.
